"I Love Fun" - YouTube Adventures

Detournement, repurposing, appropriating, supercuts, robot editing, mashups, remixes.

Mostly just goofing; the editing equivalent of doodling.  Something I do sporadically to unwind or because I stumble on an idea I want to work out.

at some point, earned about a hundred bucks (and change) from a couple of the videos I can actually monetize

(when I was allowed to monetize).

HERE'S SOME DUMB VIDEOS I MADE

“My favorite part of YOU'VE GOT MAIL is definitely the whole movie but if I had to pick one part of the whole film I would definitely say it is this scene where Joe Fox (Tom Hanks) is writing a romance email to Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) who is also writing a romance email to Joe Fox (Tom Hanks) who is a [[SPOILER]] owner of a chain book store that wants to put a childrens book store out of business that is owned by [[SPOILER]] Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) who is writing romance emails -- the whole movie online!”

I had a lot of fun editing the audio for this; replacing the voice-over with the pop-pop-pop of PD keyboard sounds.

“You know how the video for Last of the Famous International Playboys has Morrissey in front of a green screen did you ever wonder why? In 1989 Morrissey was in talks with Disney to write a song for Little Mermaid and it was supposed to be in the movie but then it wasn't and it got cut -- but this is some footage that they found on the cutting room floor.”

It received one of my favorite comments on anything I’ve ever posted:
”I can't decide if this is the best thing I've ever seen, or the worst thing I've ever seen.

There is no middle ground.”

(A lot more popular on Facebook than YouTube, to the tune of several hundred thousand impressions, 3,000 interactions, 218 comments and 986 shares.)

One year during finals, inspired by a friend's comments on Facebook, I made this to procrastinate on writing a final paper.

I am a lot more proud of this than the paper I wound up writing.

(Basically no one on YouTube clicks on this video.)

Strangely popular.  Created with Sam Lavigne's Videogrep software.

This is a playlist of all the videos I've made with Sam Lavigne's Videogrep.

Algorithmically generated: I fed a bunch of Flowbee footage + audio to an early version of my algorithmic editing process.

Someone writing on BoingBoing linked to this as if it were an actual Flowbee ad

One of the commenters: "I love how terrible this commercial is - with the vacuum cleaner running at full volume in the background and exactly ONE LADY in it."

I figure I should consider that a compliment (as well as a comment on real Flowbee ads).

REST IN PEACE, FLOWBEE ADS.

I leave this write-up as a memorial.

Did you know that the Golden Girls theme song essentially ends the same way it begins?
Did you know there aren't a ton of Golden Girls episodes on YouTube, probably because the copyright holder is unusually active?

Did you know that if you loop the video for about 23 minutes, the average length of a Golden Girls episode, and put it on YouTube, you'll get a ton of thumbs downs?

A TON.
